Department of Management’s Nichole Jackson Named Rising Huskie

In early April, Department of Management’s Office Manager Nichole Jackson was recognized with the Rising Huskie Award. After nearly a year in this role, she has found her work with students and coworkers extremely fulfilling. But her journey as a Huskie began years before, when she enrolled as an NIU student.

“I began my journey at NIU in fall 2019, having graduated from McHenry County College,” she said. “My husband and I, both non-traditional students, decided to pursue our education full-time. However, the challenges posed by the pandemic made balancing academics with our family responsibilities quite daunting. Despite the obstacles, I persisted and found clarity regarding my academic and professional aspirations. I credit my time at NIU for this realization. As the saying goes, “Huskies never quit,” and indeed, our determination saw us through.

Having recently been in the shoes of a student, Jackson found contentment in helping others reach their dreams.

“As I embarked on my job search in the spring of 2023, my priority was to join an organization that aligned with my goal of furthering my education while enhancing my skill set. In NIU, I found the perfect match. This opportunity has not only allowed me to advance academically but also to grow professionally,” she said.

The joy and energy she brings to the role has been obvious, with many in the college relying on her in numerous ways. A team player, Jackson gives back to the department that helped her realize her own potential, and she passes her excitement of NIU on to other students.

“I feel privileged to be part of a team where colleagues genuinely acknowledge and appreciate each other’s efforts and accomplishments,” she said. “This (award) reaffirms the decisions that led me to this role. I believe I bring value to the department, and I am genuinely honored to contribute.”

Jackson noted that the culture within the Department of Management fosters a sense of belonging and purpose beyond oneself.

“I find fulfillment in engaging with students who breathe life into the department. Additionally, collaborating with such an exceptional group of colleagues makes working in this department truly rewarding,” she said.

“The dedication of our staff is critically important to the quality and reputation of NIU, and we are honored for our own Nichole to be recognized for her contributions,” said Interim Dean Denise D. Schoenbachler. “Congratulations and thank you, Nichole.”
