NIU APICS student chapter wins 1st place…again

The NIU APICS student chapter in the College of Business won first place for the second consecutive year at the APICS Case Competition. APICS is a professional association for supply chain management. Congratulations to the four NIU Operations Management and Information Systems (OM&IS) majors: Giulian Racu, Jonathan Sovsky, Bharath Nanduri, and Armando Rivas.

The competition was held in early March in Chicago. Two NIU alumni — Paul Berkes and Kevin Rosenquist from UniCarriers — served as facilitators for the overall competition. They explained and managed the case for all attendees.

Four cycles of simulation dominated the competition.  Each simulation focused on a global fruit juice company in Europe. Competing teams were required to improve profitability, return on investment, service, and quality. Collectively, the competing students represented Northern Illinois University, the University of Illinois at Chicago, the Illinois Institute of Technology, and Loyola University.

Congratulations to the NIU APICS faculty advisor Dr. Shail Godambe. Special congratulations also to our outstanding alumni and friends for their ongoing support and mentorship: OM&IS alumni Paul Berkes and Kevin Rosenquist, and APICS board member Larry Simon.
