Valeria Penttinen joined the Department of Marketing in August as an assistant professor. A marketing researcher who is passionate about strategic marketing and social media marketing, she looks forward to learning more about what makes Huskies special.
Learn more about Valeria through the following interview, conducted by the College of Business Marketing and Communications team:
Q: Where did you earn your degrees?
A: I earned my bachelor’s degree from Karelia University of Applied Sciences and both my master’s and doctorate from Hanken School of Economics in Finland.
Q: What are you most excited about in your new role?
A: I am most excited about continuing my research and making an impact by teaching the next generation of marketeers!
Q: Will you do any research in your role?
A: Yes, my research focuses on two areas: strategic marketing with a focus on data-driven decision-making and digital marketing with a focus on social media marketing
Q: What do you like to do in your spare time? Do you have any hobbies?
A: In my spare time I absolutely love to travel! I’ve visited over 30 countries and counting so far! I also could not live without my exercise routine, which keeps my body in balance with all the academic thinking.
Q: What’s your favorite vacation spot that you’ve visited?
A: I have several favorites, depending on my mood! My favorite city escape was in Seoul, South Korea, and my favorite beach destination was the Maldives!
Q: What is something interesting not many people know about you?
A: I am actually fluent in four languages and am going for the fifth! I speak English, Finnish, Russian and German. I am now going for Spanish.
Q: What is one thing your COB colleagues could help you with, support you with, or answer for you?
A: I think people know how passionate I’m about research, so anything related to that will be much appreciated! I would love more support in acquiring funding to support academic studies.
