It is that time of the semester when students are studying day and night to achieve the final grades they are hoping for in their courses. And while finals week is a necessary part of every semester, intense stress and sleep deprivation can sometimes weigh on our Huskies.
To battle those feelings of fatigue and anxiety, the LRS Student Success Center is collaborating with the Departments of Accountancy and Operations Management and Information Systems, as well as the College of Business Dean’s Student Advisory Board, to plan special stress-busting events to help our students survive and thrive during finals.

This week’s calming activities have been a success so far:
- On Monday, Dec. 4, students planted miniature succulents to take home.
- On Tuesday, Dec. 5, they completed adult coloring activities and made friendship bracelets, ending the day with “Cocoa and Cram.”
- Wednesday, Dec. 6, brought fun games and live music in Haribo Commons,
- Thursday, Dec. 7, was a “self-care day,” with Chase the therapy dog visiting Barsema Hall to bring smiles to students’ faces. Students were also encouraged to wear their pajamas.
“I love that the College of Business, and specifically the LRS Student Success Center, is putting on relaxing activities during finals week,” said management major Ian Rabanal, who attended the succulent planting activity. “The home stretch from when we return from Thanksgiving Break to winter break can be rough. Students don’t always know how to deal with increased stress levels. When the college offers opportunities for us students to shift the focus from deadlines, papers and cumulative exams to a creative project or time for ourselves or with our friends, it’s a great way to relieve stress. It’s a great reminder that sometimes we just need to take a second to breathe and that we are not alone.”
Next week will provide even more support for students with our Rise and Grind Breakfast. Students can fuel up in grab-and-go style in Haribo Commons. On Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 11 and 12, students can get breakfast starting at 8:30 a.m. until food runs out.
“The staff in the LRS Student Success Center are excited to launch our first of many stress relief weeks. We want our students to feel that the college supports their overall well-being and academic success,” said academic counselor Amanda Lepic.
