Q: How has your experience at NIU shaped your personal or professional growth?
A: My time at NIU has been both rewarding and eye-opening. I discovered strengths I didn’t realize I had — personally and professionally. I learned how powerful data can be and how essential it is to interpret it in a meaningful way. The program has provided me with the skills and tools needed to succeed, and I am forever grateful for the opportunity.
Q: What were some of the biggest challenges you faced while earning your degree?
A: I have struggled with math since childhood. When I came to NIU for my undergraduate studies, I placed below college level. Over time, I not only conquered that challenge but also developed an interest in statistics. Discovering this passion motivated me to continue my education and pursue the MIS degree.
Q: Who or what kept you motivated during the difficult moments you faced while earning your degree?
A: I have always believed in leading by example. I want my children to see that the sky is the limit when you are willing to put in the work. I began my academic journey when my now 10-year-old was a newborn. My children have witnessed my growth, and I hope it inspires them to discover their own passions and to never be afraid to go after them.
Q: How do you feel NIU has supported your academic and career journey?
A: I’ve had the privilege of learning from wonderful faculty members who inspired me to keep pushing forward. When someone genuinely cares about your success as much as you do, it’s an incredible feeling that motivates you to keep going.
Q: What are your next goals after graduation?
NJ: I A: I would love to continue growing in my career at NIU. I am proud to be a Huskie and truly understand what it means when people say, “Huskies have grit.” I’m determined to keep learning and to help students realize that hard work truly pays off.
Q: What advice would you give to Huskies trying to balance work, life, and school?
A: Life is not a race. Trying to do everything at once doesn’t set you up for success. You’re here to learn and grow as a person. Not everything will go your way, but finding what brings you joy will give you the strength and perspective to keep going.
