A conversation on leadership with Dean Balaji Rajagopalan

NIU College of Business Dean Balaji Rajagopalan, Ph.D. will share his insights on leadership by focusing on how humor and humility can often create meaningful and important room for guiding others.

Rajagopalan began his first term as dean of the business college in 2016. In summer 2021, he renewed his tenure with NIU for a second five-year term. Prior to NIU, he served as dean of the Black School of Business at Penn State Behrend. He holds a Ph.D. and an M.S. in management information systems from the University of Memphis, and a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Andhra University, India.

During Rajagopalan’s first term as NIU business dean, he successfully led the college’s effort to recast its vision, mission and core values. At the same time, he guided faculty, staff and students in the development of initiatives in the face of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which is characterized by exponential advances in technology and the ongoing and deep changes that follow: from the way we live to the way we interact to the way we work and succeed.

Rajagopalan’s wit and modesty enhance his leadership skills and enable him to guide others through far-reaching and challenging societal issues toward the creation of goals and actions that help the college make meaningful and clear strategic advances on behalf of its students.

Dean Balaji Rajagopalan’s conversation on leadership and the importance of humor and humility is scheduled for the college’s Wednesday Night Wisdom online speaker event on January 26, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM CST. The event is open to the NIU community and to the public. Registration is free and required.
