NIU College of Business Announces 2022-23 IGNITE! Proposal Selections

The NIU College of Business is excited to announce the IGNITE! Internship program proposals selected for the 2022-2023 academic year. The six proposals selected cover a variety of business disciplines and represent the largest number of accepted proposals in program history. In promoting the growth of small businesses in the Northern Illinois area alongside the advancement of experiential learning, the College of Business is proud to partner with these organizations.

IGNITE! is an experiential learning initiative that offers the valuable insight of standout College of Business students to local small businesses. The student intern works for a partner organization at an affordable, low-cost rate subsidized by the College of Business. Student interns offer a fresh set of eyes and expertise in emerging business trends to their organization, all while obtaining valuable real-world experience that will further their careers.

DeKalb County Convention and Visitors Bureau

The DeKalb County Convention and Visitors Bureau/Opportunity Unbound IGNITE! Internship offers a marketing student the opportunity to learn more about tourism marketing and event planning. The student will work with the county’s tourism branding and communication strategies, develop marketing plans for social media platforms like TikTok and Facebook, and gain a firsthand look at how nonprofits engage in event planning.

MD Calc, LLC

The MD Calc, LLC IGNITE! Internship will allow a marketing student to support sales teams on marketing campaigns and develop website updates, among other responsibilities. MD Calc creates and develops medical calculators for use in health care settings, and the student intern will earn experience in the business side of the health care industry.

DeKalb County Economic Development Corporation

The DeKalb County Economic Development Corporation IGNITE! Internship will task a student intern with researching critical economic and demographic conditions within the DeKalb County area, aimed at supporting the growth of local business and attracting industrial development. The student intern will develop marketing materials such as brochures and proposals/presentations to help DeKalb County Economic Development Corporation illustrate DeKalb County as an attractive option for business development. The student intern will be able to interact and network with individuals who are leaders in the DeKalb County economy.

Innovation DuPage

An Information Systems IGNITE! Internship will be available in partnership with Innovation DuPage, which will have the student intern engage in software integration in Innovation DuPage’s systems. The student intern will work with Innovation DuPage’s member companies to analyze and input data into reports that will aid in assessing economic outlook in the DuPage area. These projects will afford the student intern an opportunity to better understand how data collection shapes business decisions, as well as provide an opportunity to network with the array of Innovation DuPage member organizations.

Dinges Fire Company

Dinges Fire Company has partnered with the College of Business to offer an Information Systems IGNITE! Internship. Headquartered in Amboy, Illinois, Dinges Fire Company supplies and distributes fire protection equipment to fire departments in Northern Illinois. The student intern will work with a team upgrading Dinges Fire Company’s technology and network, and will gain critical experience working with cloud technology such as AWS, and will also learn to use development technology stacks like Java and HTML5.

RhinoDox

RhinoDox and the College of Business are working together to offer an Analysis IGNITE! Internship, which will engage a student intern in working directly with the CEO of RhinoDox to secure Series A funding. RhinoDox was founded to help construction companies increase efficiency by streamlining bid management and improving filesharing capabilities for online work. The student intern will research potential investors and aid the CEO in efforts to secure funding. This internship will provide the student with an opportunity to work with C-level executives directly and learn about the early stages of funding through venture capital.
