Jon Briscoe appointed to Chair of Management, beginning July 1st

Jon Briscoe has accepted the role as the new Chair of the Department of Management, taking on Sarah Marsh’s substantial achievements as she steps down from the role and opts to return to her first love of teaching. Jon begins his tenure as chair on July 1st. He is enthusiastic about taking on the challenge to build on the department’s numerous successes.

Jon received his Doctorate in Business Administration from Boston University in 1998. A prolific researcher and innovative thinker, Jon’s key research pursuits focus on career management and cultural differences in careers across countries. In addition, he studies leadership, leadership development, and values in organizations. Jon publishes regularly in scholarly journals such as Journal of Vocational BehaviorJournal of Organizational Dynamics and Journal of Personnel Psychology. He has co-authored countless books, chapters, conference papers and sessions.

On the classroom and curricular side, Jon has developed courses in leadership and leading change, while also teaching courses in organizational behavior, leadership, coaching and mentoring. Along with his numerous research awards, Jon has received teaching awards in the undergraduate and graduate programs, including the “Golden Apple” Award in the EMBA and professional MBA program formats.

Coupled with his faculty role in the Department of Management, Jon has served over the last 15 years as adjunct professor in NIU’s Department of Psychology, increasingly infusing best practices in both fields – organizational behavior and human psychology – for the benefit of our students.

In his spare time, Jon co-founded and continues to serve as Research Director of the Consortium for the Cross-Cultural Study of Contemporary Careers, otherwise known as the 5C Group. His professional affiliations include membership in the Academy of Management, European Group for Organizational Studies, and Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.
